I just learned about the new Skittles site and although it uses social media in a very interesting/modern way, I don't know how I like it. I feel that if people wanted to find information about Skittles they would want to see a more 'normal' site that gives more forward information. If people wanted to find out what other consumers feel about it they would go to twitter etc for themselves.
On the other hand, it shows that they are humble and are confident in what others are saying about them and that they have nothing to hide.
Thoughts?

After seeing the Skittles site in class today I was a bit thrown off. At first I thought it was kind of a cool idea, but after thinking about it, my opinion has changed. I think as much as consumers enjoy social media, when it comes to finding out information about a particular product, most people would still prefer a company website over a compilation of social media sites. If consumers want to supplement the company's website information they can peruse social media sites themselves.
I thought Mashable's take on the new Skittles site was pretty interesting.

I agree with Mashable's opinion that Skittles changed its site because it thought to itself: “We get it. Whatever we can do cannot be as awesome as what you guys and girls can do, so we’ll just link to it and let you do your thing.”
